We know how important it is to collect robust, consistent, timely and legible data as part of effective surveying, which is why we get very excited about adapting new technologies – or finding innovative uses for ‘old’ technologies.
Our specialist team has developed a range of data collection and analysis apps using iPads. These tools allow data to be readily aggregated into relational databases (e.g. routes, trips and stops). At the end of a ridership survey, for example, data collected by surveyors can easily and quickly be downloaded, verified and aggregated.
These tools are compatible with our existing data sources and data from our GIS. Our databases can manage very large datasets (with table and field linkages) and efficiently derive useful information such as:
- Calculated load
- Boardings by trip and location
- Boarding variations.
Our tools result in a more in-depth and accurate understanding of important factors such as patronage, transfer behaviour and ridership patterns. These insights can then be drawn on to develop high-quality revised routes, timetables and driver shifts.
We have successfully taken large databases from existing systems (e.g. GPS, APC and others) and, through our sophisticated approaches, turned this data into valuable information that can be used to develop enhanced services.
